Let’s analyze the beast’s path to power. In the prophet Daniel, we have an entity called the little horn. When we compare it to the beast in Revelation, it turns out to have similar characteristics. In other words, the little horn in the prophet Daniel is the beast in the prophet John.
In the Book of Daniel, we see that the „little horn” only gains power when there are already ten horns, or ten kings, in the political arena. When ten horns rule, the little horn „rises” to overthrow three of them.
„I looked at the horns, and behold, a little horn sprang up among them, and came up, and went up among the horns. Three of the first horns were plucked up by the roots by it. And in the horn were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking great things” – Daniel 7:8.
What do the elements represent?
• The horns represent kings/politicians/leaders of nations.
• The ten horns represent a coalition of 10 rulers.
• The little horn represents a new world power.
• „The plucking out of the three horns,” meaning it will overthrow and subjugate the three rulers from the 10 horns.
• „Eyes like a human’s” can represent: cunning, intelligence, and keen observation.
• „The mouth speaking great things” represents pride/blasphemy against God.
When the ten kings (horns) already exist, then a little horn appears, which literally „rises up—grows up” to these ten horns. Only now does it subjugate three of them.
The little horn is not part of the „original ten.” Daniel 7:8 says, „another horn, a little horn, has grown up among them.” And Daniel 7:24 clarifies: „after them another will arise” and „will subdue three kings.” That is, first there are 10 kings, then the 11th (little horn) appears. Then it will subdue three of the „first” horns. Daniel 7:8: „three of the first horns were plucked from before him”; Daniel 7:24: „he will subdue three.”
Let’s summarize:
1. Ten kings (horns) arise. God inspires ten kings („ten horns”) to fight the harlot.
2. The little horn (beast) joins the ten horns and defeats three of them.
3. The little horn/beast becomes the eighth king, this is the second level of authority, i.e., the authority of 1-7 kings, followed by the 8th king – the beast.
4. The Two Witnesses prophesy 1,260 days and have mighty authority given by God.
5. The beast defeats the witnesses.
6. The beast receives authority from the ten kings, this is the first level of authority, i.e., the authority of the harlot – 10 kings – the beast.
7. Only after these points are fulfilled does the beast gain real, global rule for 42 months.
Now let’s see this description, this analysis in the verses.
1 – Ten Kings Arise. God will inspire ten kings (“ten horns”) to fight the prostitute/harlot.
„His ten horns will rise, ten kings will arise, and after (’311) another will arise(6966) who will surpass in evil all those who came before him. Three kings he will subdue (8214)” – Daniel 7:24.
„And the ten horns which you saw are ten kings, who have not yet received(2983) a kingdom(932), but they receive authority as kings for one hour/day/time(5610), with the animal/beast” – Revelation 17:12.
2. The little horn (beast) joins the 10 horns and conquers three of them.
„I looked at the horns, and behold, a little horn sprang up among them, and came up, and went up among the other horns. Three of the first horns were plucked up by the roots by him. In that horn were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking great things.” – Daniel 7:8.
„His ten horns will rise, ten kings will arise, and after (’311) another will be appointed/rise (6966)… Three kings he will subdue/humiliate„ – Daniel 7:24.
When will this happen?
Once we see the ten kings (10 horns), the „little horn” (beast) rises within the ten, bringing down/subduing three of the horns/kings.
3 – The little horn/beast becomes the eighth king, this is the second level of power:
“And the animal/beast which was, and is not, is also the eighth, and is of(1537) the seven, and goes to destruction” – Revelation 17:11.
The second level of authority is the line of authority from the first to the eighth king.
These are the world powers:
1. Egypt,
2. Assyria,
3. Babylon,
4. Media-Persia,
5. Greece,
6. Rome,
7. USA,
8. The beast.
4 – The Two Witnesses prophesy 1,260 days, they have mighty authority given by God:
„And I will give My two witnesses, and they will prophesy/speak/foretell times/days/years(2250) one thousand two hundred and sixty, clothed/covered with sackcloth(pl. 4526). These are two olive/berry trees(1636) and two lampstands, standing before the Lord of the earth. And if anyone wants to harm them, fire comes out of their mouths and devours their enemies. And if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed. They have authority to shut the sky, so that no rain falls (in) the days of their prophesying, and they have authority over the waters to turn them into blood, and to strike the earth with every plague, as often as they desire” – Revelation 11:3-6.
At one point, two prophets appear on earth and preach for three and a half hours. Their preaching wields mighty authority on earth:
5 – The beast defeats the two witnesses
“And when they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the bottomless pit(12) will make war with them, and overcome them, and kill them” – Revelation 11:7.
6 – The beast receives power from ten kings
“and give their kingdom to the animal/beast, until the words of God are fulfilled” – Revelation 17:17.
“These have one purpose/will, and they give their power and authority to the animal/beast” – Revelation 17:13.
This power from the 10 kings is the first level of power, i.e. the power of the prostitute, then the 10 kings and the beast.
7 – The beast receives full authority for 42 months
“And it was given authority to act for forty-two months” – Revelation 13:5.
“And it was given to it to make war with the saints, and to overcome them; and it was given to it to have authority over every tribe, people, tongue, and nation” – Revelation 13:7.
Only after these points or prophecies are fulfilled does the beast gain real, global dominion for 42 months. After these months, Christ comes with His army and destroys evil.
Different Scenarios
We have various scenarios for the beast’s rise to power. Here’s one of them…
Consistent with the above verses from the Book of Daniel, the little horn (beast) appears as a significant political force only after the ten kings have assumed power. The prophet Daniel provides a brief glimpse of the beast’s political life. In Revelation, we have a description of the beast’s rise, reign, and death. The Bible doesn’t specify when the beast becomes the eighth king. We don’t know whether this happens before subjugating three of the ten ruling nations, or whether this subjugation is the only way to obtain the status of the eighth king.
To become the eighth king, the beast must defeat the United States. It remains unclear whether this will happen peacefully, meaning the United States will be politically taken over by the beast’s agents, or whether other political forces will rally behind the beast and defeat the United States. We’ll be watching this, as it will be an interesting showdown.
The Revelation informs us that the 10 kings and the beast will come to power at the same time:
“And the ten horns which you saw are ten kings, who have not yet received(2983) a kingdom(932), but they receive authority as kings for one hour/day/time(5610), with the animal/beast” – Revelation 17:12.
It’s likely that the 10 kings will dethrone the prostitute and succeed her as the first king. The beast, on the other hand, will dethrone the United States and assume the second kingship, the eighth king. The prophet Daniel informs us that the 10 kings will first assume power, and then the beast:
„His ten horns will rise, ten kings will arise, and after (’311) another will arise(6966) who will surpass in evil all those who came before him. Three kings he will subdue (8214)” – Daniel 7:24.
It’s important to recognize a fundamental principle for prophecies. When prophecies are fulfilled, it’s through God. There’s no theatrics here, no political scheming. People, politicians, or spiritual beings have no power to oppose God’s will.
